SeDe Project

Segregation Patterns / Deprivation Areas

Research Tools

The project will examine different types of change at the most spatially detailed level data are available (Census Tract) and will use multivariate techniques (mainly factor and cluster analysis) to identify the most important among them and as well as their spatial shape/pattern. The detailed mapping of the results of this analysis will provide the canvas to synthesize, illustrate and attempt to explain the changes observed.

Comparing data from the 2021 National Census with previous ones (mainly those of 2011) will help observe whether socio-spatial inequality has increased or decreased since 2011 and furthermore to locate the procedures which led to the gradual change or stability of these areas’ social profiles.

In order to secure a cross-sectorial analysis the project will combine different sources of Secondary data sources and platforms (mainly census microdata (1991, 2011, 2011) and the microdata provided by the research project ISTOPOL – Stories of Athenian Apartment blocks—ISTOPOL https://www.istopol.gr/ funded by HFRI, completed in October 2022). While the spatial dimension of the data is at the center of interest of this project and of the main research questions, the regulation (actual and anticipated policies) are also of great importance. Last the research team will mobilize the knowledge and research findings of an extended international network. The exchanges within the network will be guaranteed through a series of workshops.
